Fidya

About this Project

Fidya is an Arabic term meaning a compensation paid to free oneself from a difficult situation. According to the consensus of Islamic jurists, a person who is unable to fast due to old age or a chronic illness with no hope of recovery—and who therefore cannot make up the missed fasts—must pay fidya for each missed day. This compensation is given to those in need. Fidya reflects the principles of mercy and ease in Islamic law while also strengthening social solidarity and support within the community.
